Chemistry & Metallurgy: For his basic contributions to the structure of chemistry through the preparation and characterization of perbromates and hypofluorous acid, previously believed non-existent, and for his fundamental research, in collaboration with J.G. Malm, leading to the first preparation of perxenates and of various powerfully oxidizing xenon compounds in aqueous solution.
